Canon flash

Hi

Was wondering if anyone with technical knowledge on the canon flash can help me please.
I have bought a cheap 3rd party ring flash.Which works fine on canon 50D.All modes with fire flash Av-Tv-P-M any setting works fine. But On Canon G12 it will only work on auto setting on the camera. I have tried Canon flash on G12 which works fine as it should All modes work great. So any body tell me what would be the difference. I know the cost but there still must be slight difference,like voltage on one of the pins maybe.

Canon are the only folks that know how Canon flash works. Third party makers have to reverse engineer their products, and sometimes there are incompatability problems with different models.

If that's what has happened here, it may be that the flash manufacturer can do a firmware upgrade to suit the G12. It's common enough with some brands, so you might be lucky. Or might not.

The G12 has the same spec for the hotshoe as the 50D so you needn't worry there. There is a little hiccup in the G12 that means you have to turn off the continuous shooting mode to be able to use external flashes that don't communicate (ie, non-Canon and Sigma products).

Yeah now works fine, again many thanks for helping me out there. It was only £21.00 and works as flash and constant light. Great value. Really pleased now.

It may be something that'll get fixed with a future firmware update..... although, as it doesn't affect Canon Speedlites, maybe not.

Yeah as you say they may fix it. However as its only used on the macro side of things its no problem just having single shot enabled. It was good of you to help out.
