Hello, i would really like to add a flash to my system, i would love a speedlight but funds are a bit limited at present, can anyone recommend a cheaper third party flash unit which they actually use, i realise you only get what you pay for, but any flash is better than none at present, it will be for use with my Canon 400D and 600D.

Nissin Di466 is good valve but the models above offer more options at higher cost.

You could look for a second hand unit and possibly Jessops branded ?

Be very careful with old units, best avoided unless you are sure. The trigger voltage can be too high and damage the camera body.
 
thanks for the replies, i'll do some research on all the flashguns mentioned.

Dave the Di622 mark II you mentioned on microglobe, i'm seeing a price of £109?
 
Swissy apologies, it's the Mark 1, but when youcheck specs, the main differences is the Mark 2 has a metal hot shoe adapter instead of plastic and the zoom is a bit quieter on the Mark 2.

Still a bargain in my eyes considering the spec.
 
If you go for the Nissin Di622 I'd advise getting the MkII rather than the MkI. I know it's a bit more expensive but I did have some incompatibility problems on a 60D and a 650D with the MkI due to firmware upgrades. I couldn't find a local dealer who could do the update for me so I was a bit stuck. I ended up selling the Di622 and got a Di866 instead.

I've now got 2 Nissin Di866's, 1 a MkI and 1 a MkII and that is a fantastic gun. They have a port to upgrade the firmware but I haven't needed to update either to go with my 5D3. I usually use the Di866 on my 7D as I've got a Canon 580EX II that's usually on the 5D3, but the Nissin's make great off camera flash controlled wirelessly by the 580Ex II. I bought the Di866 MkII off the classifieds for around £140 and for what I'm doing with it now it was money very well spent.
