Want to get a good quality compact for times when carrying my 50D is not possible. Had ordered a Panasonic FX150 but was very unhappy with the high noise levels even at low ISO so think will have to look again but it has put me off the LX3 from Panasonic.

Would be very interested to hear peoples views on these two cameras especially from people who use them. Noise levels and general image quality are my main concerns.

Thanks

Well I think that the noise handling on the leica and LX3 are going to be the same, but I'd think both will be better than the G10. By a whisker.

I've been thinking of changing my LX2 for the 3, or the Dlux 4. Mostly just or the noise improvement. The LX2 is an amazing bit of kit but does need to be nailed to 100 or 200 ISO.

The LX3 has very good noise handling. It's the camera I'd buy if I was in that market. It's not got the best focal length (60mm max I think) but the image quality seems to be superb.

The LX3/Dlux4 has a faster lens so you can use a wider aperture, get more light in and not have to up the ISO so much therefore get less noisy pictures.

In any given low-light situation therefore, the LX3 lens should enable you to use lower ISO than the G10 for the same exposure.

I've got an LX3 and it's really really lovely.
