Yes
Thought I'd treat myself to a G11 to replace my aging G7 from 2006.

What follows is my personal opinion of the Canon G11 compared with my G7.

It arrived on Tuesday of last week, as soon as I got out of it's box I knew I'd made a mistake.

The build quality/finish of the G11 I found far inferior to that of my G7.

The general feel of it was wrong, it didn't shout quality as the G7 does, it felt as if it had been built down to a price.

Compared to the G7 I found........
These are the ones I can remember.

The plastic surface finish cheap looking.
Soft shutter release.
The control dial too small, fiddly and sloppy, not positive.
Buttons that came to rest under my thumb and being pressed inadvertently.
The battery/card door insubstantial, looking like it could break any minute.

The flip-out screen has been made too big, with the result that the control dial and buttons are squashed into a narrow strip down the back of the camera.

I'm sure the results from the G11 are superb but, I've found nothing wrong with four years results from my G7.

The G11 I sent back and have obtained a full refund.

Had I not owned a G7 for comparison I'm sure the G11 would have been fine.

The main thing that struck me was that the whole package was ‘insubstantial’ again when compared to my beloved G7.

Advice if you're considering a G11, toddle off down to the local camera shop and get a hands on.

Dave

G11 is on the right. Appologies for poor picture quality.
