Thinking of buying the Canon G11, i mainly use my camera for landscapes/people.

Question is, am i buying the right camera, or should i go for something like a
Canon 1000d.
 
The G11 is only an reincarnation of the G10, with tweaks.

Will the 28mm lens be wide enough for your landscape work?
I am sure the 140 end will be fine for portraits and people pictures.

I like my G10. I won't bother upgrading to the G11 for the bit of improvement they made. It is a great little camera.

If it is for snapshots / nothing serious perhaps G11 will do. It is not that cheap new.

1000d or better nikon alternatives open more opportunities and can produce professional results*

* with good lenses, good light (I don't mean bright sunshine!) and skill.
 
My G10 produces perfectly professional results, thank you. I have several covers taken with it. and more than several DPS. It produces A3 quality straight out of the camera, what it isn't good for is hig ISO - 200 is about the best you can hopefor. On 80 or 100 it is fine.

This is one aspect they improved with the G11 - much, much better ISO use.
 
Agree the G10 is an excellent camera, the reason im looking at the G11 is a friend of mine is selling his.

The thing is, do i buy my friends G11 (only 6 months old and £300) or budget/entry-level DSLR

Not everyone needs a 1d and lots of L lenses to take decent photographs you know. ;)

I had a quick play with a G10 and it seems very nice.
 
It depends on how seriously you want to get into landscape photography imo.
I have both the G11 and the 5D mk2.
Yes you can shoot landscapes with the g11 and print up to A3 etc, but is it as good as a decent dslr? No
The G11 is great for a walkabout, excellent for candid people shots etc but I personally dont use it for serious landscape stuff as I like to use filters etc

After having a play with the G11 today iv decided to keep it :D

Im not and never will be a serious photographer even though i enjoy photography.
