Further to my little rant at the Epson state of affairs I'd like to consider my optins with regards to decent home prints.

Anyone got any views or comments on the Canon IP4600?
 
Bought one around the start of this month, to replace an aging Epson R300 - knocks the spots off the epson, currently using original Canon inks and some cheap (read bought at ALDI!) glossy photo paper and i'm really happy with the output.

It's also a pretty good general purpose printer, does auto-duplex printing and a lovely line in printing dvd's. It does seem a little thirsty - i'm currently showing the magenta and cyan inks to be pretty much empty, the yellow has a warning on it and the non-photo black is half gone. Now, it's possible that a fair bit of the first ink cartridges gets used up when you first install the printer, as it seems to whirr and bleep for ages (probably priming the new print-head)

I'd definitely be interested if anyone else has feedback as to how thirsty it is in the longer run though.
 
If it's anything like laser printers they will probably have supplied "starter" cartridges which are only part filled.
 
I've got the 4500i and it's a little belter (though it does seem ink hungry compared to my old Epson)!! :D
 
Ink abuse would be the main reason for junking Epson, each time you turn it on, or use it after a few days of standby you can see the ££££ being squirted away as it cleans and primes.
 
On a related note, where's good for cartridges (originals or copies) at the moment, as I'm running a bit low on black?? :D
 
I usually find 7Day or mx2.co are cheapest if you're not in a mad rush.
 
I read an article the other day regarding if it's better to leave a canon printer switched on permanantly if it is used virtually every day and the general opinion was (and from memory I believe someone from canon backed this up) that if used daily don't bother turning it off because it won't go through a full head clean which is where the ink gets eaten up.
 
The epson's are the same.

If you don't use it atleast every 48 hours it cleans the heads and chucks your money away :(
 
My local printer chap recommends them very highly and said that friends of his have won competitions with photo's printed from the Canon. I was going to get one but was offeres a nearly unused iP6700D for £40 which i think is the older version of the 4600.
 
I have a 4500 and love the quality of prints. Good tip about keeping it switched on if it's used at least every couple of days. Must give that a go.
