Canon IXUS 75 - in Japanese!!

I wonder if anyone can help...

I have an IXUS 75 which I bought second-hand a few months ago as a carry everywhere p. & s. and it has worked fine. Switched on yesterday and the menu has defaulted to Japanese:eek:

I have swapped the SD card - no change.

Removed and changed the battery - no change.

Even trying to change the language settings is not possible because the "change language" option has gone too. The only options are in Japanese - at least I assume its Japanese, it could be Chinese for all I know:cuckoo:

Has anybody come across this before?

Is the camera cream crackered?

Have you tried getting the manual and following the menu steps to change language? I used to get this quite often when I worked with phones, it's a matter of choosing the right menu without knowing what it actually is.
 
Try going into menu, then the icon with the tools, scroll down to language, go into language and all the languages are shown here. Or at least that's how it works on my ixus 980
 
Obviously the problem will be it will no longer say language, as it's in Chinese or Japanese as you say. You will have to simply go into all the setting in the tools section, and have a look in all the headings. In my ixus 980 language is 14th from the top in the tools section.

Thanks all, but I am aware of the above. As stated originally the language options have disappeared. There are no options in any of the menus except in Japanese. In fact in the language section - five from top - there is only Japanese? hieroglyphs.
 
Perhaps take a photo of the rear screen and post it up, we might have someone who can read the text on the forum.

Not sure if that's the language you are in, but if I click where I am pointing to, this brings me back to the language options.

I did get a little lost when I went into that language, it is confusing!

On the basis that I thought it was ftb I've gone mad bidding on e-bay - hope they don't come in or I'm for it.
