My ex-wife is asking about a new kit for her personal use. She's leaning towards Canon because she likes the feel of the camera more than the Nikon versions.

I'm steering her in the way of a 450d and a Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 lens. I'm a Nikon guy, so don't really know a lot about Canon stuff.

Is there anything she would need to know about this combination? I've informed her of crop factors and focal lengths, etc...

Thanks in advance. :)

I use a 450D and Tamron 17-50 and I love it! The Tamron is an awesome lens, and one with image stabilisation has just been announced, so you could go for that or get a better deal on the old model!

What does she want to shoot, this will make a difference.

I started out with an XXXD body but quickly realized a XXD would suit me much better.

She'll probably just shoot life stuff. Around the house, etc... Nothing fancy. Easier the better.

Then look at a XXD body too, I went walkabout with my 13yr old niece with a 30D and a 50mm, she fell in love with it and I will probably give her one of mine when I upgrade, I think a 350/450D would be a little harder on the learning curve for her.

XXD is much more body for only very little more, once you get one upgrading is out the window, unless you go Pro.

But with either you won't go wrong.
