The Canon EF 1200mm f/5.6L lens is a professional EF lens made by Canon that was introduced in 1993, six years after the launch of EOS cameras, and discontinued in 2005. The initial price for this lens was US$89,579. It weighs more than 36 pounds (16 kg), comes with its own heavy-duty tripod and case, and is built only by request. The focal length can be increased to 1700mm f/8 or 2400mm f/11 using the Canon EF Extenders 1.4× and 2× respectively. There are reportedly only ten of the EF 1200mm lenses in existence. Sports Illustrated magazine owns two of them, as does Canon Professional Services and James Jannard, the billionaire founder of Oakley.

strewth those are a lot of canons. what i'd give for one of those 1d's and a 500 f4, and that coming from a nikonian!

surely it's time for someone to bring out the traditional nikkor 1200-1700 zoom picture ;)
 
All you'd need to do is sit behind them with some jamming equipment and they probably have heart failure!

Whats the aperture on that 1200-1700? That must be able to pick out someones nosehair. Judging by the fact that guy as no monopod...is he planning on handholding!!!!!!!?????????!!!!!!???
 
Yeah - he "handholds" while another guy behind him uses the camera!

It's an F/5.6-8, is very rare (only a few about) and is MF, not AF.
