Canon - Lens - 50 mm - f/1.4 USM - Canon EF ????

Thinking of buying the above lens and have noted a somewhat similar lens at £85 approx. Googled both and seem to be opting towards the more expansive one for all the reasons I have read.

For those of you that have it what do you think or do you have another alternative?
 
I have the cheaper (f/1.8) one you mention, but am currently on the lookout for one of the f/1.4 lenses to upgrade to. The f/1.8 is great, and has been brilliant to learn with as my first fast prime lens on my first DSLR. Having just got a 15-85mm lens though, i really notice the difference in build quality and usability - hoping the upgrade will give me a much nicer focus ring, and also would like the non-rotating front element for when i use polsrisers (really difficult on the f/1.8 unless you've got a long time to focus and re-adjust on a tripod).

Of course, as i've not yet used the f/1.4 i may find it's terrible... But would hope not, given the reviews i've read recently :)

Basically the 1.8 is the best value lens out there, and performance wise it's exceptional FOR THE PRICE. If you search these boards, both the Canon 1.4 and the Sigma 1.4 have been mentioned a lot lately (I recently bought the Sigma and it's great).

If money is a worry, don't hesitate to buy the 1.8 straight away. If money is no option then get the Sigma as it's optically the better of the three. If you can't stretch to the Sigma price, then the Canon 1.4 is better than having no 50mm lens, if you want better than the nifty fifty (1.8).
