Hi everyone,

I treated myself to a new 135mm f2 lens today, and just happened to notice the date code being UA .... 2012.

What if the date was lets say, 2010 or 2011, think I would be a little disappointed even though its a new lens.

Let me ask this again ... sober lol

Bought a new lens from Castle Cameras yesterday, with a 2012 date code, now I'm not to bothered as I understand the shop could be carrying old stock, and we are only talking a few months. But, my question is what if the lens date was 2011 for arguments sake, would that not effect the price if I decided to sell the lens. Should we check dates before buying?

Unless Canon have brought up a new version of this lens in the last year or two I wouldn't be too fussed if it had been sitting unsold for a while, as you said. Provided it is indeed unused if purchased as such.

Presumably a 2012 135 f2 will be identical to this years one.

Regarding resale value, condition will have a far bigger influence on price than one or two years.

If it was 5 years then I'd be concerned, but one or two shouldn't make too much of a difference.

Your right, it really doesn't mater what year the lens was manufactured, as long as its new and a good copy.
