Do all canon lenses fit on the Eos 1100D body?
havin trouble understanding all the different lenses

AF? I think AF will stand for Auto Focus. It's the mount that decides if it'll fit or not. Canon make lenses with EF and EF-S mounts. Your camera is an APS-C camera and it will accept either EF or EF-S lenses. The problem comes with other Canon cameras in that it's Canon's full frame cameras like the 5D that will only take EF lenses and not the EF-S ones.

You can also look at lenses from other makers such as Sigma and Tamron as long as they are in Canon mount and are modern lenses made for digital cameras. Sigma make DG and DC lenses and they'll work on your camera. DG are Sigmas equivalent of Canon's EF lenses and Sigma DC are their equivalent of canon's EF-S. Tamron have Di and Di II, Di being like EF and Di II being like EF-S.

All this will be on the manufactures web sites, but it may be a pain to find so you're just as well asking here :D

Brilliant thanks very much for your help alan! Really cleared it up for me it was This link that confused me with the af bit.
 
It's made worse because sometimes shop sites don't give the lenses their full name complete will all the little numbers and letters.

If you get confused at a shop site you should ring them and ask, check the full details on the manufacturers own web site or just ask here. Someone here will pretty much always know.
 
EF - will support all Canon bodies (full frame & crop)
EF-S - will support only crop bodies (like yours)
AF - Auto Focus
MF - Manual Focus
FD - old Canon mount
