Canon + Lens = Major Brain Ache!

But jessops covers me for 3yrs with a one off payment and thats worldwide cover and the only thing i am not covered for is corrorsion.
Its also like for like if they can not repair it, so where my 50d or 7d is brand new if the item is still available to buy then its a like to like swap, IF not then its to the value it was on the reciept at the time i paid for it in vouchers to buy another camera.

Ok i know i dont get liability insurance or theft but this is not for a main job, just hobbiest and if people wish to buy a photo or two off me then so be it.

£125 for a battery for the 7D! Genuine Canon ones are less than half that price on Amazon. And they last so long that two is all one really needs.

As for insurance, I use my household contents insurance, as do many others. It covers me for accidental loss or damage as well as theft - both at home, outside and on holiday.

£27 sounds a bit cheap for a UV filter. I don't bother with them at all, but if I were to stick one on an expensive lens I'd make sure it was top quality.

For what you want to do the best combination is 7D and 70-200 f2.8 non IS. If you are going to comprimise, do it on the camera (50D) rather than the lens.

I recently bought the MKII 70 - 200 2.8L IS from Kerso for my 50D. I have only used it in anger once and I have to say that I am blown away by the quality of the resultant pics. I am a complete numpty with no talent or ability but even I can see the difference between this lens and my previous kit lens. The AF is fantastic and amazingly quick and the crispness and clarity takes things to a new level for me. I used the lens for the first time at a local mini football tournament when the weather was lovely so can't give you any feedback on low light performance but I love this lens. All I have to do is spend the next 10 years trying to live up to the quality of it. Not that that will ever happen.

Re insurance - one major advantage of getting something independent, whereever that is from, is that it's fluid and can change with your kit bag.

I bought a 5D with the 24-105 f4l and have been through numerous iterations to my current setup. Until you have the kit and use it day-to-day it's hard to say what is right for you.

Well i need to make my mind up and its not easy i know that much. Do i go with the cheaper option of the 50D and a 2.8 lens or do i go for a 7D with a smaller lens then buy bigger next year.
Also the 50D will discontinue soon aswell.

tamron 17-50f2.8 and canon 70-200f4L are both strong lenses and will sell for what you paid for them. Learn what you need/want then spend the rest of the money ;)

buy from the classifieds here if poss
