Hi, sorry with the search not currently working I cant tell if this has been asked before, although I suspect it has.

I was wondering if its worth getting the secondhand canon 300mm f2.8 IS I have just bought serviced? What do they do? any idea of cost? anyone had it done?

Thanks.

Is it working ok otherwise why would you want too.

quick test of focus and IS. strip down and clean. then replace motors if needed. Grease focus runners. rebuild with calabration. Only worth doing if you noticed the IS being very noisey or the focus very slow. Or your a pro. 2nd hand wise I have notices the above lens tends to come in two types heavy worn or near mint. Heavy worn tend to have come from agency or pros and seem to be the old type that are no longer servicable. The near mint tend to come from the amature who buys them thinking it will give the perfect photos and then get pee'd off and sell when they can not get there technique right with them.

Thanks guys, just want to look after it as it was a big investment for me. Wondered if it was a bit like servicing a car to make it last longer, not that I was going to pour engine oil into the lens;)
