Canon lens upgrade advice

Hi all. Wonder what people think about an upgrade path from the well thought of and economical EF-S 55-250? I'm shooting on a 40D and (if my savings work out) am looking to upgrade body next summer (lots of saving to do!), and possibly to a 6D though not certain yet. So I'm starting to think about upgrading my glass in the mean time in readiness and want to get something that would go on the FF should that be the route I go. Budget-wise I'm not too bothered - just means if its a £1000 lens i'll have to save for a (lot) longer. Thinking so far is the EF 70-300 f4-5.6L, which seems to get very well regarded. Would appreciate insight from anyone who's been using one for a while. My thinking is that if I get a new body that has really decent high ISO performace that I need worry a bit less about having a faster fixed aperture lens e.g. the 70-200 f4 or f2.8 Ls. But that could well be flawed logic! Thanks, Graeme

I am always wanting more light Graeme, would it bother you if at a later date that you realised that 2.8 would give you that extra stop of light/speed... If your considering the 2.8, then deffo wait and save a bit longer for it. If however you dont mind selling and upgrading again later, then go with the 70-300 (4-5.6)

I use a very recent body and 2.8 IS glass and I'm still wanting more light.

Thanks for this, yeh I'm not adverse to upgrading to the 70-300 then upgrading further again if it doesn't suit, we'll see. Cheers Graeme
