Canon Lenses?

Im looking for a budget telephoto lens but im proper stumped!

Im a novice with a 500D ..

Do i get sigma, canon etc? Whos makes it best lol?

Im looking at Canon 55-250 or 70-300 .. which of the 2 is better. Concidering im on budget and the 250 is cheaper!
 
The Canon 55-250is is probably the budget telephoto of choice these days replacing the ageing but still good Sigma 70-300 APO you really can't go wrong with it for the price.

Alternatively you could opt for one of the older second hand 20-210 Canon lenses the F4 is very sharp but has a bit of a slow noisy focus motor the f3.5-4.5 gets usm focussing but looses the constant aperture. They are both however excellent lenses for those on a tight budget.
 
As you know I have just sold my 55-250, but I found it to be great lens.

Look on eBay, I am sure you will find one on there.
 
I use the Sigma 18 - 200 as my walkabout and find it a good standard.

It is the same speed as the Canon 55 - 200 and a bit dearer but I find the wide end really useful as i do a lot of landscape.

I also have a Canon 70 - 300 which is again the same speed but find it more cumbersome as a walkabout and I haven't yet got to grips with the 300 end of this and I fail to get good shots even though it has image stabilisation. This is also the dearer of the three.

Having said all that, what do you want to photograph?

and to answer the other Q.

i want the lens to shoot things at a distance. But im talking cars, motorbikes, birds, landscapes. Everything lol but budget as im learning and dont have much money
 
Don't know your budget Danny, but 55-250s are reasonably priced new, have a look at this link from CamerPriceBuster.

I have one, and it's an excellent lens for the money.
 
there brand new on ebay from UK sellers for £145 too mate :)
 
True, but choosing between ebay and a shop for a few quid, shop every time.
