Canon LP-E4 batteries

Does anyone use 3rd party batteries that are up to the job.

Having recently aquired a 1D3 refurb body I nearly had a heart attack when I looked at the cost of the genuine article. I thought the LP-E6 ones for my 5D2 where a joke but the LP-E4 just takes the biscuit.

I've tried two of the very cheap ones from 7dayshop.com and returned both as one was DOA, and the other died after a single charge. I bought these just after getting my 1d3 a year ago.. However, since then I've just trusted the original battery, and even taking over 2,000 shots one weekend with lots of image reviewing in camera, there was still about 20-30% life left in the battery. I've feel confident enough in the battery capacity not to risk trying another cheap one and I can't image many situations where I'll be away from a usable power source for long enough that I won't need a spare battery.

You often see 40D, 5D, 7D sold with extra batteries, but rarely a 1D3 or 1D4 as they simply don't need them that often under normal circumstances.

As said above you can take over 2000 shots on one charge with the Canon battery!
