Yes
Looking into this lens (when I eventually get the pennies up) just curious how it works, as it extends etc, is it basically like its own extension tubes or is there a bit more to it?

Thanks

Yes that is about it, it does all get very dark too the higher the magnification you go and above 3x it is pretty dark so the mt 24 EX Twin macro lite is a good idea as the focussing lights are really useful so you can see what you are doing at the business end of the lens.

I have one just now.

It's 'fixed' at 65mm and produces 1:1 magnification when fully retracted.

You then extend the lens up to 5X by which point you're working very close with a depth of focus of about a tenth of a milimetre.

Without flash it's catch 22 - open the aperture to 2.8 to get in the light and the dof is only about 1/10th mm. Bring down the aperture to deepen the dof and you you loose light.

Great fun though.

another mystery of my life out the way! lol

It's manual focus only this lens so you need to see what's going on.

No I have set mine to come on with a double half press of the shutter button and they stay on for about 5 seconds, you can set it up in the custom functions on the flash if I remember correctly. Damn useful I think ;) alternatively you can just press the lamp button on the back of the MT-24ex

ahhh very handy!

how much though? :bang:

About £500 from Kerso I think if I remember correctly :D

I have to go along with Alby here, I think if you are buying a MPE 65 it would pay to factor in the cost of the MT24, as the focus lights are invaluable for high mag stuff.
