canon or sigma 24 - 70 2.8

Hi

I have been wanting to buy a canon 24 -70 L 2.8 now for a while. I use a canon 50d and wanted the 2.8 for low light.

I wondered if any of you have tried the canon and the sigma 24 - 70 2.8 or if you own any of these what your thoughts are?

Is the sigma as good as the canon?

I have owned both, first the Sigma, then the Canon. The Sigma was a great lens, very sharp and pleasure to use. However, when I got the Canon version, it was in a different league in turns of sharpness and build quality. One thing to take into conserdation is the weight of the Canon, it's a heavy beast.

If you can afford it, I would suggest going with the Canon but you would still enjoy using the Sigma.

I havent used the Sigma but will agree that the Canon is a lump! Excellent lens though and well worth going for that over the Sigma if you can

I recently purchased the Sigma, I used for an indoor trade event, work flawlessly but if I had the cash I'd probably get a used Canon. But I'm not displeased with the Sigma. Anyone used the HSM version of this lens?

Why not have a look for a Tamron 17-50 or the Canon 17-55 IS? Both cracking lenses that will imho outshine the Sigma and wont be far behind the Canon 24-70 (and ive owned all those lenses at some point)

Sigma non-HSM is a complete disaster. HSM still has problems like missed focus. Canon is not perfect but much better.

I must have a decent copy, I haven't had any focus issues..
Probably best to buy new so you have the warranty
