CANON OR SIGMA

Hi need some help. Looking to buy either a CANON 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM lens or a Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG Macro lens for my canon eos 450d any help with which lens you think is best or an other would be appreciated.

The Canon 75-300 isn't highly regarded. The Sigma 70-300 DG Macro is not as good as the slightly more expensive APO version. Another to consider is the Canon EF-S 55-250IS lens.

Optical quality aside, long-term compatibility is an issue when considering to buy 3rd party lenses.

A Canon EF lens will be guaranteed to work with any EF Canon body, now or in the future. The same can't be said for a Sigma lens, which may fail to work with a future Canon camera and need re-chipping (assuming that Sigma offer this facility).

1. Sigma 70-300 APO
2. Tamron 70-300
3. Canon 100-300
4. Sigma 70-300
5. Canon 90-300
6. Canon 75-300

I have the 100-300 USM, and tbh think its excellent. It seems to be good quality, and has the excellent ring type AF motor, so is really fast and positive.
