OK just upgraded the old printer to the Canon after recomendations on here, what paper is the best for this printer, is it canons own paper? and do users recommend compatible inks or Canons. Any other tips for using this printer much appreciated. I use CS3, should I let the printer manage the colour or CS3?

Had to get a new one for sons school homework, just thought I would try printing a few shots out.

Always used Genuine Canon ink in my i865. Glossy paper from Costco, I think they brand it Kirkland. Great results, always let PhotoShop manage colours. Look into having a print profile made for it, or just experiment with the default Canon profiles.
I've had acceptable results printing from Canon Easy Photoprint Software, but remember that will only recognise jpeg's.
Printing from TIFF you'll have to print from PhotoShop
Check out valueshop for ink prices.

Hi

I would always use genuine inks and a good quality paper.

I've had mixed results printing from Elements - prints can come out dark even with same settings that are used in the Easyphotoprint software - probably a setting i need to change. Good results using the canon software though

Have also only used Canon inks on the iP4600.
Had a couple of bad experiences with 3rd party ink cartridges before on Lexmarks, and i am 100% happy with the prints using Canon's ink-Hence i wont fill it with crud :)
Currently trying out some a4 paper from Tesco's-Their "finest" one..And tbh-am pretty happy with the results

Thanks for the comment and advice folks.
