I'm considering upgrading my current compact (TZ40) to the above thread title.

I note Panamoz are offering them at £494, a considerable saving on the £700+ elsewhere.

Reviews I've read so far are good.

Has anyone here got one yet?

I've been looking at a high end compact for holidays and this is on my list. Note that the grip is different on the european version, but the saving you get from panamoz should neagte that.

The RX100 mk3 should be interesting, if teh leaked specs are true then I maybe looking at that instead of the G1X II.

I got one on a whim a week or two back and so far am very impressed, albeit with limited chance to use it

What I like:
  • excellent "point and shoot" abilities with very good quality JPEGS SOOC.
  • fast autofocus which seems to be nailed each time
  • relatively fast lens f2.0 - 3.9 and a good reach
  • comfortable to hold / "feels" substantial
  • easily customizable eg I have the three rings set as follows: inner ring - aperture; outer ring - exposure compensation; dial wheel: ISO
  • produces good portraits
  • good quality ND filter built in
What I find challenging:
  • tends to over-expose sky a little [possibly my fault so far]
  • battery life not great - similar to my X100 when I had it
  • No viewfinder as I was used to on the X100
  • a lot is menu driven which I'm finding hard to work out

What I've not done yet:
  • checked out low light performance
  • used for fast moving subjects
  • used the wifi / phone app
  • used video option
Overall, I'm very pleased with it and will keep it for a while more I expect. Accessories are expensive at the moment - eg filter adapter is £40, lens hood £30. I'll wait till third party accessories come available - hopefully soon.

Kevin, are you using the external viewfinder? I know it's list price was also very expensive, just wondered if there deals and at what price?

I got rid of my G1X because the close-focus (or lack of) was really annoying me - supposed to be much improved on the MkII model.

@BT Bob No, I didn't get the external viewfinder. The pricetag put me off. It's something that I miss from the X100. Having said that, I used the G1XMk2 in bright sunshine and the LCD was ok. Not brilliant, but ok.

@Jackwow Depending on what you didn't like about the G1X, you might find that version 2 is better. Or all your dislikes may have been multiplied!

For now, I like it and am happy with it's handling and performance.
