Yes
Just wondering if anyone had moved to the RF version from the EF and could share their thoughts please.

I've currently got an EF 400 5.6 to go with my R7. Whilst I really like the lens I'm finding the fixed focal length limiting at times and would like to have the flexibility of a zoom. Currently using the 400 for bird photography but looking to get into aviation photography this year

Any thoughts please

The EF100-400ii is a faster lens (in operation) than the RF100-400 - also has weather sealing which the RF100-400 doesn't have...

If you have the readies the RF100-500 is the lens to go far IMHO

I should add I used to have the RF100-400. I no longer do.

Many thanks unfortunately the budget doesn't stretch to the 100-500. Can I clarify when you say the EF is the faster lens are you referring to aperture, AF speed or something else

EF 100-400 ii is a prosumer grade very high quality lens. At 400mm they are supposedly about equal to the prime you and I have got. Except it can also focus much closer.

RF 100-400 is a cheapo but not cheap consumer lens I personally wouldn't touch with a barge pole

Speed of operation - focussing.

Downside is that it is heavier than the RF100-400.

There's little mileage in quibbling about less than a stop - up the ISO a stop and be done.

When the EF 100-400 L II came out, one of the tear-down reviews showed it to be one of the most well constructed zoom lenses... ever! From what I can see, the RF equivalent is the RF 100-500 L. The RF 100-400 looks to me like it's made of plastic (could be wrong), so IMHO is not of the same quality in build at least.
