Hi all,

I have some vouchers burning a hole in my pocket, and I see that the S95 is £220 on amazon.

For this price is there anything else that I should be looking at or is this my best bet?

I have a 7D at the minute which I love but I do not take it everywhere with me. I am looking for a camera that I can keep with me and also take when I am on my road bike.

Can you do manual settings on the S95, ISO, F Stop etc?

I used to have a Canon G11 which shares the same sensor and the IQ from it was stunning for a compact. The S95 has manual controls for ISO, Av, and Tv. You'll love it! Personally, 90% of the time I would leave the G11 in program with saturation boosted, i-Contrast enabled and it would give me the shot I wanted.

For the money I think these little cameras are excellent, so good I'm considering replacing the G11 with another.
 
I bought an S95 to save me carrying my 40D everywhere. I am still amazed at the results it gives for such a small camera. I seem to be using it more than the DSLR now. I'm never without it because it just slips into any pocket, even my shirt pocket.
 
I've got an S90 (the poorer at video little sister to the S90) and it is great as a pocketable camera with fully manual controls.
 
For that price its a steal, a very good camera, although I tend to use in Auto or TV mode as I couldnt get good pics with manual (despite the fact I use manual on my D300 all the time???)
 
So you guys think that it would be a good alternative to the 7D when I don't want to carry it with me.

Are there any other competitors around that price range?

Also, what is it like in the evening with the flash? As I have a compact at the minute, and I hate using the flash for taking pics in the evening as it seems to do faces no favours!
 
There really isn't anything as good in the same price range. The flash isn't very powerful which does actually help with faces at night.

In Manual mode there is flash compensation. You can download the user manual from the Canon web site.
