Canon Speedlites 'slave'....430EX & 580EX II

hi again all....does anybody know if a 430EX (being used in cam's hotshoe), can fire another 430EX off-camera whilst set to the 'slave' function?? Or would it have to be a newer model like the 580EX II on camera to fire a 430EX wirelessly? as sometimes i prefer to have a flash on cam as well, rather than both units off. xxxx thanx!

fairly sure it only acts as a slave, not master

Dod is right. A 430EX can only act as a slave, whereas a 550EX, 580 EX mk1 & 2 can act as both slave and master.

The alternative would be to have an ST-E2 attached to the camera to trigger the 430EX.

yea i figured, thanks though! i've got one of the ST-E2's on the way, though I find that sometimes an onboard flash is good too. .....eBay time !
