Canon, tamron or sigma?

Looking at getting a used lens, either the tamron 70-300mm, sigma 70-300mm or the canon 75-300mm.

What are peoples thoughts on these lenses? Is there one of these that is better?

Not sure the others, but be careful with the Canon 75-300 as there are a few different versions and the earlier ones are a bit pants. If you can, get the Canon 70-300 IS - I used to have one and it was a great lens and I was pleased with the results I got
 
I was looking at the older ones that dont have the IS, i already have a 55-250mm IS but there have been a few times where i feel iv wanted a little bit more zoom! So thought about getting a cheap one and using it on a tripod.
 
Are you going to sell the 55-250mm? A bit pointless have 2 lenses virtually the same.
The canon 70-300mm IS a great lens, alternatively the Tamron 70-300mm VC also a good choice for less money, depends on your budget.
Forget about the older versions of these lenses, they were all very average too poor performers.
You could always look at secondhand lenses, mpb photographic, WEX, park cameras, ffordes, mifsuds, camtech and digital depot as well as the forums are good places to get used gear.
 
If the older versions are very poor then I will think about replacing the 55-250 with one of the ones you have suggested.

I did find it odd that the older canon ones go so cheap! Glad i asked on here now!

I disagree with Peter a little, if he ment the Sigma 70-300mm. I have recently been using a Sigma 70-300mm APO Macro lens on my D750 and for the price I paid from Wex of £47 I couldn't fault it one bit. I have recently bought my third Tamron 70-300Vc as I need the VC for arm problems, it is a good lens but if you want cheap, the Sigma I had was okay for the money.

Only used the Sigma which is a perfectly decent lens for the money. I had mine from my film days and only stopped using it when I bought a 300mm f4 at 10 times the price. I have the APO lens- which is supposedly slightly better- though I seem to remember some people have said there was little difference.
 
The old Canon 75-300 lenses are dreadful. I haven't used the Tamron or the Sigma, but I doubt they can be much worse.

The Canon 70-300 IS is a completely different animal - that's worth investigating if your budget can stretch to it.
