After a recent Lens Purchase, I'm looking at getting one of these lens mounts....

Does anyone have any comments / Experience of using the wide variety (in price aswell) of the mounts that are available ?

Many thanks in advance

Phil

If you don't want to shell out for the Canon original, this is one of the better alternatives, as the design has the same spring-loaded latch mechanism as the Canon version (a lot of others have an inferior locking device) and it is made of aluminium. Can be had even cheaper on ebay too

officially there is no need for one, however it does make life easier to turn the camera to portrait shooting if on a tripod - I looked at the eBay ones and in the end went for this one - works a treat and for a bargain price.

I've got this one and it's a bit crude. I wouldn't recommend it http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tripod-Moun...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1273886790&sr=1-1 One thing I wasn't happy with is the tripod thread it just tapped into the bare monkey metal and I didn't trust it. Easy enough to drill it through and secure with a bolt and nut, but it shouldn't be necessary.

Pixlamb one on ebay 'looks' okay. I see they also do an official Canon one for £70. The real deal has a steel insert for the bush.

Thank you gentlemen for your comments and suggestions.....

I think I'll take the plunge and go for a Canon one, but if they can be had for £70 rather than £140 odd, then that'll do me !!.......

It's just one of those things..... I fancied one... got a lens that'll take one..... and I'll see how it goes...
You may be absolutely correct and it may turn out to be a waste...... but I'd like to give it a whirl... :D

I was thinking of maybe using it with a monopod... just to take the weight a bit........ and I can see how it works with tripod....... maybe an alternative to an L bracket.....

Many thanks

If you can bide your time, the genuine Canon versions do come up on fleabay occasionaly. I managed to snaffle one for £25 (used obviously!)

Yea, tonight/tomorrow is fine. I do need it back for next Tuesday as I am off to Europe for a week. Otherwise your welcome to borrow it for longer once I am back.

Nice one !

Lemme know when you get your new lights - I could time my visit to coincide ;)

Cheers

Phil

I have an original and the JCC one listed at the top which is plastic and does flex a little. The original is much better, think i got mine from far east for around £70 a good year or more ago.
