Hey, I have a pretty much brand new 40d and the main dial is not working in manual mode.

This means I cannot change the shutter speed, or the ISO.

I have cleared all settings that I may have changed and its still not working?

Has anyone else had this problem :'(

Thanks
Gary

Update

I forgot to say, I have a grip on it.... tried with battery and it works fine, so must be a problem with the grip :'(

when you say the main dial, do you mean the big wheel?

have you got the power switch in the extended function position?

Don't be offended by me asking the obvious but are you putting the power switch up to the line and not just the mid-position.

You won't be the first one to fall over this.

Bob

Edit.....Too slow again it seems.

In manual on a 40D ( as default) the ( top) dial adjusts the speed
the other one the back the aperture
The ISO is adjusted by the "buttons" on the top. or from the "menu"
Is that you are looking for ?

edit too slow

I have fixed it at the moment,
I used the dial that is on the grip (which I don't usaully use)
Once I had used that, the main one then worked on the camera.
Hopefully that wont happen again :)

(not knowing the grip) is it possible that the dial on the grip was stuck between positions? (half clicked to the next position...)
