Canon TTL MR-14EX Ring Light Flash Question

Hi

Will a Canon TTL MR-14EX Ring Light Flash fit or can be used with a Sigma 105mm 2.8 macro lens is it just a case of getting the right ring size please any help appreciated, or would I be as well going for the cheaper Sigma EM-140 DG Ring Macro Flash

Think it's just a matter of getting a 58mm macro lite adaptor ring to fit the canon unit to the sigma
 
It will fit Dave but you'll need a Macrolite 58C adapter to go with it.

but would you go for the canon or sigma ring flash please?
 
I had a Sigma several years back and now have the Canon.....my answer would be neither. I would hang fire until you can afford/justify an MT-24.....far more flexible and creative for macro. I'm sure other people will pipe up and sing the praises of the ringflash but they just don't do it for me.

Thanks Bob, Im sure they are much more flexible, but I dont think I could justify spending that much (£749.00 from WEX) on a macro flash, are they a lot heavier than the ring flashes
 
I appreciate the cost implications Dave. It's about 4 years since I used the Sigma and don't recall any disadvantages it had over the Canon version.

Thanks Bob, I may have a look around see if I can see a good SH MT-24 :thumbs: my friend has the sigma one so I may ask him can I try it out as well :thumbs:
 
I have the Canon and a mate of mine has the Sigma, I would probably go for the Sigma to be honest as it has a modelling light which is very useful the Canon doesn`t have it. If you do go for the mt24, it has a modelling light. :)

Eh?....the MR-14 has two modelling lights (focussing lamps) like the MT-24

Thanks Bob Im really only just starting to look into them, thanks for letting me know it does have focusing lights, think I'll youtube and see what I can see in the way of tests, its a mine field, I cant afford a the MT-24 so it will be either the sigma or MR-14 , will go have a look for some comparisons and reviews

FWIW Dave, the focussing lamps on the MR-14 converge at around 11cm although the pools of light are big enough to cover distances out to about 20cm (they're getting a little weak by then).
