Canon Upgrade ?

I currently have a canon 350d that I would like to upgrade. Im thinking of a 40d, would the image quality improve a noticable amount, and would you recommend the 40d over the 550d.

I did that exact upgrade. I haven't seen a big increase in image quality but in terms of handling and fps the 40D is a world apart. My old 350D feels like a little toy camera in comparison.
Also I find the menu system and button placements on the 40D to be far superior making the camera much easier to use.

The lens plays a much bigger role in determining IQ than the body so, as above. The 550D is a step up from the 350D, and the 40D is a bigger step up - it's also larger/heavier - but don't expect any real improvements in IQ if you're using the same lens(es).

I did that exact upgrade too, and I agree 100% with these comments.

All of what was said above. Once you've started using a model with the extra buttons/wheel you'll wonder how you ever managed without it. The functionality makes it a dream to use. It's also slightly better weatherproofed. I used mine and my 50D in all sorts of weather that I wasn't happy using my 300 & 400D in.

It also feels better balanced with the larger lenses on. It's also worth getting some extended life batteries. 7 Day shop do some 1500Mah ones for around £6 (search for BP-511).
