Canon warranty card?

No
My new 5D3 didn't appear to have anything inside the box resembling a warranty card or anything I should send off to Canon. Is this right? Do I need to register it somehow with them for warranty purposes?

Where did you purchase it? Is it defo new & unused?
If it was an import/grey the sellers usually remove the warranty cards because your warranty is with them & not the manufacturer.

Clifton Cameras - it's brand new and UK retail.

I'll have another rummage if there should be a card in there - what am I looking for exactly?

Ignore me, I'm an idiot - found it, the EWS paper thingy.

Still not entirely clear what I need to do with it. It has places on it for writing down the serial number etc and the text says that to "invoke" the warranty I'll need proof of purchase but it doesn't actually say whether I need to send anything off to Canon or not or whether I'll just need said proof of purchase if and when I make a claim.

You don't need to fill anything in, just keep the warranty card/slips with your receipt.
Go to the Canon site & register online if you wish. You used to be able to ring them to register, but someone recently said you can't anymore? (not sure how true that is)

Personally, I keep all the paperwork for cameras and other kit in the box in the loft. Makes it easier to find, even if it does need a ladder to get at it!

Definitely go online to www.canon.co.uk click on the 'support' tab and register your product. You'll need the serial number etc. if not registered you won't be covered.

Bruce, if you have a UK sourced Canon product that requires warranty repair your first port of call will be the retailer who sold it to you, it's up to them to sort the problem, weather it's registered with Canon on their website or not is in my opinion immaterial.

Yup know what you mean but registering takes minutes and it's just additional peace of mind regardless of the retailer

Well it's registered with CPS anyway :)

It's actually Silver, Gold & Platinum :p

Only the basic level as only my 5D3 is considered higher than a Silver level body. I understand that the 7D wouldn't be classed as a Platinum level body but, considering it's their premium APS-C body, I'd have thought it'd have been classed as Gold at least.

Know what you mean. They have an odd system. I've used them once when I had an issue with one of my cameras and they were brilliant. Rang them in the morning and they took it in that day. Back next morning.

Yeah used CPS last year when my 70-200 needed calibrating and they were awesome. The engineer actually called me for a chat when he had the lens in front of him.

Only time I've ever needed a warranty repair was with an unregistered lens. No problem.

Yes, I know I should have sent it back to the retailer, but they said they would just send it to Canon for repair. It was much quicker for me to pop into the local repair centre. I gave them the lens and a copy of the receipt, they fixed it.
