canon xxD range rubber grips

Does anyone have any top tips on how to keep the rubber fingers grips on these models from going white? My 50D has a few small white bits on the shutter side grip.
I thought about rubbing a very small bit of black boot polish on and leaving it to soak in.
Don't want it to get to messy though.

I've no idea. I thought it was due to the rubber drying out slightly.

Doesn't happen on my 40D either. WHat about some 'back to black' that you would use on a car interior? Might make it a little slippy though.

My old 40D never had it after approx 70K clicks, how about some indelible black felt tip pen where needed?
