Hi, well... i have purchased a canon 350d, which is my first dslr, for the last year and half i have been using first a s5600 and then my s9600. And the s9600 zoom goes from 28 - 300mm iquiv.

And because i am involved in alot track day events and nurburgring visits its allways been good. So im after one for the canon.

Im not wanting to spend alot as its not somthing i will be using al the time. And i am aware that you kinda of get what you pay for. But after browsing the ebay pages, the 2 that stand out and seem popular on there and in budget are these two:

CANON EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS ZOOM LENS
Link to lens

Canon EF 75-300mm F/4.0-5.6 USM III
link to lens

And i would like you recommendations on which one?

bascially... there similer in price but 1 is 300mm without IS, other is 250mm with IS?

Or any other advise :)

Thanks
Andy

Go for the 55-250! I've heard a few too many bad words said about the 75-300, some say it's o.k, others say it's the worst lens Canon ever made. However, the general consensus is that the 55-250 is a cracking lens.

I haven't used either, I went for the 70-300 IS USM, which has the benefit of IS and 300mm, but comes at a bit of a premium. If you can afford it, go for it, if not, get the 55-250!

I have the 75-300 non IS and to be fair I would not buy another.

Its soft at long reach and the IQ is nothing too special

I am looking for another long lens this year because of it.

IS really is a godsend on longer lenses. Here are some reviews:

75-300
55-250

The 75-300 comes out less than well. I'm not too sure on the conclusion for the review of the 55-250, which is "buy the 70-200 f/4 instead", a lens costing over double the price . I guess some people's idea of cheap is different to others! Do bear that in mind when reading the reviews!

To throw another out there, I have the Sigma 70-300 Apo version and have used it with some success on trackdays onestopdigital have it for £140 at the mo. Come with a lens case and hood too which is a bonus an the apo version is supposedly loads better than the non-apo version.

55-250mm IS is a cracking lens, never regreted buying it! The IS is a godsend as far as I am concerned!

Taken with the 55-250mm IS

+1 but if you can afford it the 70-200 is lush :D:D:D:D (may lead to more L series glass though :o)
