Canon zoom lenses

Currently using an EF 70-200mm f4L USM with occasionally a x1.4 extender and well happy except no IS and im finding I do need IS So my option is to upgrade to an IS version of the same or for extra £50 I can get the EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 L USM or the EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L USM mark one

Is there any difference in IQ

I have the 70-300mm L IS lens and it is an extremely good lens and I would think that it would be better than the 70-200mm + extender.

you can compare the 2 lenses, but remember that in real life the difference may not be as marked.

And, like you, I certainly need IS.

Pick up a second hand 100-400mm L. Great lens and plenty around. Places like WEX have a good grading system for the used equipment.

The 70-300L is a superb lens and significantly better than the 100-400L MkI. I would also agree with Petersmart in that I would expect the 70-300L to be better than the 70-200L + 1.4x.
