Yes
What are you thoughts for the best Macro lens for a canon. One that will focus real close and at a reasonable cost.

You might be better to define 'reasonable cost' as it's a term that can mean two completely different values to two different people!

I'd be looking to spend no more than £1000, but I would like it to be Canon. I'd like the 500mm Canon do but I would need a divorce first ha ha

The 500mm isn't a macro lens. Not by a long way...

What are you trying to photograph?

If it is definitely macro look no further than the 100mm L macro

Or there is the 300mm F4 L. Nice telephoto lens which also has enough magnification to get close enough to do a good job on butterflies/dragonflies and the likes.

Yeah I know the 500mm isn't a macro I'm looking at getting the sigma 50-500mm just saying I'd like the Canon 500mm but it's for to expensive for me. Yes I'm also after a good Macro lens. At the mo I do sports and portrait photography but want to try wildlife. Red Kites with a 500mm and Flowers/ insects with the macro.

Don't macro lenses sometimes have less than lightening fast AF? That's been my experience but I could just be unlucky :)

The reason I mention this is that macro lenses I've used have been ok for macro as normally I use MF for that anyway and ok for stationary targets but pretty much a PITA if you want to AF on anything moving reasonably fast, like BIF.

Personally I'd split "macro" into a category all its own and live with any AF speed limitations and get something else for anything likely to move.

I've got the Canon 100mm f2.8 L macro and it's fantastic. Not only for macro but for portraits as well. Most of the time I use MF for macro, although on my 5D3 the AF is fast enough for most things.

The lens can be got at www.panamoz.com for a very good price http://panamoz.com/index.php/lens/canon/canon-ef-100mm-f-2-8l-is-usm-lens.html although I got mine at London Camera Exchange for over £700 last year. Panamoz also do the Sigma 50-500 OS for £886 with a 3 year warranty.

They are imports, but you have to decide if you want to save £'s by sending them back to Panamoz IF the worst happens. The 2 lenses at Jessops would cost £2070 and at Panamoz would cost £1482 including p&p and 3 year warranties on both saving you £588.

This is a Jpeg SOOC and heavily cropped with my 100 L and 550D, f5.6, 1/125sec and ISO 400, this is one of my early shots but it'll give you an idea. On the full sized photo the detail is much clearer too.

Surely they can't sell it that cheap? Have you purchased anything from there before?

Myself and lots of other people on this forum have bought from panamoz.
