Canon 550D or 600D? whats the difference and which would you say is better?

The main differences I think are the movable screen on the 600D and its a slightly smaller and lighter body. The 600D is just the next model up in the range from the 550D. Both very capable cameras, but I can't recommend which one to go for as I don't shoot Canon and don't know enough about them.
A quick Google pulls up loads of websites with comparisons of the two though, so you can easily find your answer.

The 600D was a slight update to the 550D

The 600D is a newer camera, and now there is a newer still 650D; I would always go for the newest model.

Take a real note of the additional features of the 600 and then 650 and weigh up whether they are pluses for you.

I think the only difference between the 550D and 600D is that the latter has a flippy screen and wireless flash command built-in. I'm pretty sure they're identical otherwise. My wife has a 550D and I personally think it's a great little camera.

The (rather more costly) new 650D has quite a few new features; better metering, higher frames per secon, auto-focus system, new sensor...

Depending on budget, there are the usual few to look at

I would purchase the body with the 18-55IS kit lens, the Canon 50mm F1.8 would be useful for indoor newborn shots as well.

If you're likely to want to shoot video as well as stills you may be better off going for the new 650D if it's within your budget. My wife was using my 550D and getting some great photos out of it but decided she wanted an upgrade to the 650D when it was released. The ISO performance, articulating touch screen (which is excellent and very responsive), higher fps and the wireless flash setup make it a very tasty package.

With the 600D you get the articulating screen and wireless flash, but I don't think the ISO performance is any better than the 550D and the fps is the same too. The sensor and the processor are the same as the 550D too, whereas the 650D has a newly designed sensor and uses the Digic5 processor which gives a better buffer rate too.
