Can't find 5DIII on ebay

I'm tired of waiting for my insurance to buy me a replacement camera for the one I lost in my accident so I thought I would go ahead and buy one myself. Problem is, all I can find is gray market ones and I don't want that. The first day I started looking I found one for 2750 u.s. and by the time I verified it it was not gray market it was sold. I finally figured I would have to pay a couple hundred more but I still can't find one. Is there some sort of shortage that I'm not aware of. I bought my last one a year ago for 2850 so I figured it would be easy to replace. Man I was wrong. What gives?
 
you looked at bh or adarama ?

depending on what you do and what lenses you use, you could look into a a7/a7r instead
 
No thanks on other cameras I am replacing a 5dIII that was destroyed in a bad accident. I wanted to buy from Ebay because of price and I have not got around to getting my tax I.d number yet . That means I would have to pay an extra. 8.25% on top of an already higher price if I bought from the retail store.
 
Can't help you with the eBay purchase, but have you spoken with your insurance company to find out how long / try to push them a little ???

Thanks but it's actually not their fault. I was in a bad accident and my equipment got damaged and when the paramedics came and picked me up they put some of my equipment with me and the police investigators took the rest and put it into evidence. I had to get the district attorney's office to send me pictures of it because they won't release my equipment. That took forever and the pictures are really not very good so I don't know if that will work. I'm going to try to submit everything this week.
 
If you have any kind of proof of purchase and those pictures, however poor, then that should help. Also if you have a photostream up anywhere with the camera info on it then you can point them at that to prove you had that camera and you used it.

Hope you're doing okay now. When you submit everything, why not have a chat with them and see if they can push it through for you ?

photos or no photos the police need to give you crime ref number, and a list of items taken as evidence, with description of damage etc. This is all you need. I am sure you have ways to show ownership such as boxes, online receipts, photos of gear, etc. Replacement should be with you in a few days

I had to get the district attorney involved and I got a list of the items they have. Unfortunately they don't have my. 24-70 mrkII or my watch. That's a whole lot of money right there and I'm not talking about the lens. Sense my filter was attached to the lens they did not list that either and it doesn't show in the picture. So basically I get to turn in about 14k worth of items to my insurance that are missing and another 6k worth of things that I actually have or have pictures of. I'm really not looking forward to this.

In the mean time I have realized that I'm just not going to find a good deal on a new 5DIII. Canon has a 200 dollar rebate on them now so I guess I have no choice but except that it's going to cost me more for this one than it did for the last one. I'm not waiting for my insurance I'm going to buy it tomorrow and just let the insurance pay me back.

Why are you bothered about imports. I own 2 Canon 5DMKIII cameras both imports. As well as a number of lenses saving me thousands on UK prices. All registered with CPN no problem and had cameras cleaned under warranty.

The reason I'm bothered about imports is because I have any faith in the people that I'm buying it from so if I had to send it back I would have to rely on them. I'm not going to rely on someone I don't know to handle the situation properly. Sorry if that sounds harsh, it is what it is...
 
Well your under international warranty so it goes back to Canon. I also got 3 years warranty with the guys I deal with all the time as well. Would rather deal with them than Calumet or Wex.
 
Yes it goes back to Canon after I send it back to the seller and he decides it time to send it back to canon. I have no control of the transaction and have to rely on a person I don't know to do work for me and will cost them money and time. To me it sounds like something they would probably not want to take care of. I would also have no recourse if the seller did not hold up their part.
 
It'll be great for your rehab to get back out shooting.
 
Yes Phil that's exactly why I went out and bought it with my own money before my insurance payed for it. I think this will be very helpful mentally for my recovery. I'm also at the point where I'm learning to walk again so having a reason to walk from a to b will help too.

It's funny because everyone around me knows how passionate I am about photography but they wondered how being hit while I was out shooting would effect me. I never gave it a second thought. All I wanted to do this whole time is get well enough to get back out shooting again.
