Can't find a Sony a580 anywhere!

Hello folks,

First proper post so I hope it's in the right place!

I've been hunting all day for brand new a580 at a decent price and kind find one anywhere. When I say decent price, Jessops do it at £550 with the kit lens but every store seems to only have the display model which they refuse to sell for a reduced price. (Not keen on people having their paws on it before me!)

One exception is a small number of lesser-known websites which aren't worth the risk.

Even the Sony Centres don't have stock.

1. Does anyone know of any particular supply issues?
2 Does anyone know of a smaller independent business in Greater Manchester or the NW that would possibly stock it?

I found them on camera price buster. Think they're ok. Worth ringing them up to see if they have any.

If you can't buy one then it does suggest there might be a supply issue! Alternatively if you haven't got a load of older sigma lenses have a look at the A55. Same sensor and a similar price. Video capability is also a bit better.

Excellent find, thank you. I'll give them a call tomorrow otherwise I was probably looking at a couple of weeks wait for Jessops to stock up.

Had a look at the a55 today BTW... didn't leave me convinced. It really did feel like I was looking at a small TV screen. Autofocus was very rapid though.

Just noticed that your an a580 user. Are you happy with it?
 
Still no joy as Castle Cameras have just sold their last one! The search continues.

All help appreciated.

I am happy with it. Body plastic is a bit cheap feeling compared to the a350 but otherwise it is a much better camera. It's basically a nikon D7000 for half the money!
 
The A580 is what I am considering upgrading my A200 to. How is it for noise at higher iso's ? The A200 isn't great for noise above iso 400. Would I be upgrading to to high a level , should I be stepping up to the A4XX range first ? Apologies for butting in on your thread.
 
On auto iso it goes up to iso 1600 and that seems perfectly usable. Higher than that the noise is more noticeable but it isn't as ugly as some noise seems to be. Bit grainy and colours are a bit flatter.

Extended iso 12,800. It's a cheat multi exposure thing so it seems to make images too dark. First time I tried it and probably needs some experimentation.

I probably wouldn't bother with the intermediate range of the 4 series. A 560 is the newer 14mp cmos. That or the 580 or the SLTs with the newer cmos sensor is where I'd be headed.
 
I think Stocks been poor since May I was at one point thinking about upgrading and started to look and had the same problem as the OP, In the end I've given up and will wait and see what Sony comes up with regarding the supposed a77 or a65.

I'm using the same sensor in an SLT, so I'm losing 1/3 stop of high ISO noise performance due to the translucent mirror. Despite that, ISO 3200 is better than 1600 on my a850 and even 6400 is useable in the right conditions. The a580 should be slightly better than that. It really is a brilliant sensor.

I'm sure London Camera exchange had some in stock last time I looked. They're on Piccadilly Plaza in Manchester City Centre. Might be worth giving them a ring to check.
