Can't find how to adjust 7D Exposure Compensation in Live View mode

Feel like a numpty asking this, but I can see how to adjust everything in Live View mode on my 7D except Exposure Compensation. Ive read the Live View chapter in the manual, but can I find it?? :bonk:

can anyone help please? TIA

Have already tried that Joe, but the exposure compensation mark at the bottom of the scale doesnt move :shrug:

I'm wondering if I have inadvertently disabled the back wheel in some other settings somewhere :shrug:
 
What mode are you in?

Have you tried pressing the Q button and adjusting it on the LCD screen?

Have you unlocked it with the throw switch underneath. If this is wrong, it disables the wheel completely.
 
In Q mode the back wheel works fine to adjust the EC, but when in live mode I dont want to have to keep coming out of live view to adjust the EC then go back to live view mode.

I can adjust everything else without coming out of live view mode, so the 7D must be able to do the EC aswell I would have thought :shrug:

Then the only thing that can stop it is, as arad85 said, the lock button underneath the wheel.
 
Yours isn't broken. You have to lock the exposure before adding in any compensation.

Press the * button and you can now dial in EC

Activating the meter (half press shutter) and adjust EC within 6 seconds should work, no need to lock exposure.

the * comes up on the viewscreen ok, but the backwheel doesn't alter the EC

Which firmware are you running? I'm on 1.2.3
 
I just tried this on my 7D:

- if I enter Live view in AV mode and attempt to move the backwheel 'first' then nothing happens.

But if I then depress the shutter button halfway and achieve focus, then the backwheel will adjust the exposure compensation by adjusting the shutter speed.

But if I enter Live View in 'Manual' mode the backwheel will start to work immediately without first achieving focus.

If you believe you may have set a command somewhere that is stopping the backwheel working, then perhaps a reset of the camera to its factory default setting may clear it?

ps Have you set 'Exposure Simulation' under the Live View Menu to be enabled as otherwise the Live View will remain constant whatever you change?

The EC should be working the same when not in live view > turning outer back wheel when meter is active, no need to go into Q, as long as you are in P,Tv or Av.

Thats not what I'm finding. When looking through the viewfinder with the metering started (shutter button half pressed), I can adjust the aperture with the front wheel, but cant adjust the EC with the back wheel. I can only adjust EC via the Q button.

I'm 99% convinced you have the switch under the dial to lock. When in Q mode the dial works - even if the switch is locked. If locked, it doesn't work when pressing the shutter half way.
 
It's defo not on lock Andy.

When I'm in live mode, I can press the AF-DRIVE button and display the Live Mode symbols on the top of the screen and the Shooting mode in the bottom of the screen. I can then alter the shooting mode using the back wheel.

Same thing is possible for changing the WB and the Flash EC using the back wheel in live view mode

Yes. Those will still work with the wheel locked. The lock is there so you can't alter exposure compensation by accident ;)

Slide it back and fore a few times. The white mark should be under the line (i.e.fully left).

Hmmm mixed success. Slid it back and forth and kept it on the left, started metering.... EC worked with the back wheel. :)

Looks like an intermittent problem :'(
 
And you know where & what the problem is....
