[captive] Gyrfalcon at Chester Cathedral

Thanks both. The shots against the white sky aren't the kind I would normally keep but I think they kind of suited the monochrome-ish colouration of the bird. I'm still not sure if I like them or not!

Yes that is a radio tag. It's owned by the Falconry Centre at Chester Cathedral and these shots were taken during a free flying display. It actually refused to come back to the lure for the best part of an hour!
It went off chasing the local pigeons, which they expected it would. It was amusing to see it fly off out of view then 20 odd pigeons it flushed out appeared above the rooftops.
Then the gulls joined in as they were mobbing the falcon.
The fun and games went on for a while, sometimes it rested on a nearby roof, then eventually started making high-speed passes through the display area chasing the falconer's lure, sometimes whizzing past us with seemingly only a few inches between us and it.

When it finally came to glove it had blood on the underside of its wings so presumably it made a kill.
