Capturing water...

Hi,

I went out today with the idea of trying to capture a local river rushing past the imbedded boulders and small banks.. Although no matter what combination of shutter speed/aperture i used, i ended up with something vastly over exposed or a frozen river..

What i'm after is an effect closer to my trial capture... A rather unglamorous one at that. Can anyone offer any advice?

Use as low an ISO as available to stretch the exposure time as long as possible. If that doesn't cream the stream enough, either use ND filter(s) (a polariser can give a stop or 2 less light) or shoot when there's less light available (dawn or dusk).

There are a few HERE that show the effect of a few different shutter speeds on a fastish flowing stream - the longer the exposure the creamier the water looks. The stream pics were shot with a compact that wouldn't allow a longer exposure with the available light and our parking was about to run out!
