card reader problems

i have a motionflash 23-1 card reader which is ok with nearly all of my cards
CF,SD or Xd...so far
now i have bought a 8gb SD and it wont handle it even though it is ok with the 8Gb Cf card
any suggestions..
just tried the 8CF and its just blinking..
guess something has gone wrong...its old and could be 1.0usb??

will get a new one..any suggestions as to a good make

meanwhile i have shots on the 8Gb SD to sent tonight to someone

will also try a new cable..did that not the cable..

failing that its load from the camera which i dont like doing

seems to be ok now with 8Gb CF and a 1Gb SD...i chucked on the floor....but with the 8Gb SD it is lighting up and my computer shows the drive available...i click it and the hourglass..XP..runs and then i get my computer not responding...then a loss of the lower toolbars...i take the reader out completely and get the plink noise and my screen comes back on

its taking pictures ok.....forgot to mention that..its a transcend SDHC card...new

used the supplied cable from the camera...felt very nervous about this but it worked

Sounds like you need a new card reader. When I upgraded to 8gb SDHC cards my old reader, built into my Dell monitor, wouldn't read the new card. Bought a USB3 reader and everything worked as it should.

My laptop is a bit finicky about my transcend SDHC card, it needs to be inserted a certain way for it to work, all other cards read fine. It sounds like your card reader might not be SDHC compatible.

that i think hits the nail on the head...didnt really know there was a difference...i thought sd was sd but now i look on google i see there are higher speed readers especially for sdhc et al
so i will fork out £1.99-£4.00 for a dongle...

amazon rules OK..cheaper that ebay and free post
