Carrying gear on a plane

Anyway, the OP is travelling Ryanscare and wants to take kit.... it won't happen without huge cost and risk. If he is willing to pay extra then use another, more Customer focussed airline - only in my humble opinion of course :)
 
Fly Air Fungus (Lingus) it's a much better flight. And you don't have to move to the back of the plane to balance it when there are a small number of passengers onboard. I'm never flying Air Monkey again. I'm not a Daily Maul reader but based my opinion on my previous experience I will give them a miss in the future and fly with another airline. My previous advice on wearing a Photographers vest has stood me in good stead for many years, good to read other photographers have also benefitted from wearing one too.

It is them, not Ryanair, that won't allow you to depart the airport without paying the fee.

Sorry, but they've invoiced you for full and final payment. If there's an additional tax they should have added it at the point of invoice not after payment.

Which is exactly the point I argued with Ryanscare, however the word "reasonable" is not in their vocabulary!
 
I see your point. However, having flown with them on many occassions Ive not yet had any reason to complain. I also use Jet2 and they are okay too though they did pull a con a couple of years back to get out of paying for a delayed departure from Leeds when they called everyone to the gate about five minutes before we approached the two hour point in a delayed flight (the point at that time when they would have had to compensate), they opened the gate and 'boarded us.......onto a coach that waited an hour before moving out to the aircraft. As far as their records were concerned we had boarded five minutes before the two hour threshold. A bit naughty.
As for Ryanair, I do wish they would stop that awful trumpeting when arriving 'early' on an obviously stretched out schedule.
 
At the end of the day they are a low cost, budget airline. They are no worse than EasyJet or our Australian friend's absolutely awful Tiger Air and about average Virgin Australia. You pays yer money and you takes yer choice. You could always pay premium prices and fly good old British Airways but do ensure you carry your cameras in the cabin as they are officially at the top of the misrouted/lost luggage table.
If you would like to call in and have a look on the PPrune Professional Pilots Forum you will be able to avail yourself of all the current, real time, whinging and complaining from underpayed, poorly treated and stressed out staff at most of the 'Premium' airlines.
 
I think it's a shame that this thread started out as a query about finding a suitable carry-on hard case for a trip and has deteriorated into a slanging match about Ryanair.

Back to the original question; does anyone know of a decent quality hard case that fits in the 55cm x 40cm x 20cm size allowance specified by Ryanair?

Care to explain how I was wrong? That's a pretty sweeping statement.

Have you never witnessed the de-humanising approach to being among the first 90 bags to get carried on? The young and the fittest survive!

We've had that discussed - there doesn't seem to be one. The consensus of opinion being that Ryanair don't have workable option which allows for the usual (deserved) slagging off they get!

As others have said. Buy a priority ticket for like an extra tenner and your sorted. Or just put your hand luggage underneath your seat!


Besides that. Crap like my luggage is slightly bigger and heavier and expect Ryanair to turn an eye or stupid things like saying Ahh I forgot to print or check in before arriving airport is perfect examples of lame excuses.

Ah, so your sweeping statement doesn't include me then! That's a relief - there was me thinking Ryanair are above criticism.
 
I travel a fair amount for work and sometimes take my camera gear.

We tend to fly Ryanair and Easyjet due to cost and flight times.

Having done 31 trips in the last 12 months, I can tell you from experience that its hit and miss as to whether either airline enforces the 'rules' stated on their respective websites.
If you take a bag with wheels then you are more likely to be asked for it to be put in the hold on a busy flight, Ryanair and Easyjet both seem to do this.
Every single time I have gone on with a backpack, nobody has batted an eyelid.

I have seen huge backpacks, far bigger than the hand luggage allowance which were allowed through.
I have then seen relatively small bags with wheels which had to go into the hold.

There are rules but they are not often enforced unless the flight is really busy or the person on the desk is having a jobs worth day.

I have taken a Tamrac backpack containing a Camera, three lenses etc AND a tripod attached to the back and the steward on Ryanair even helped me get it into the overhead bin :)
On another day, I may not have been so lucky.
Only once have I been asked to put my bag in the hold and that was because I was in an exit row seat and there was no more space in the lockers, although they didn't charge me.

FYI - Never once have I had my hand luggage weighed with Ryanair or Easyjet.

All airlines have gauges and scales to check size and weight. Not all of them use them every time, but they are there and if you are asked to use them then you must.
 
I've just come back Portugal on Ryanair. Never checked my hand luggage once. Give you an idea of size and weght, I had a Tamrac expedition x9 with the following gear:

1x 17-50mm 2.8
1x 70-200mm 2.8
1x 50mm 1.8
2x flash guns
Filters
12x camera batteries
plus accessories
