Anyone interested in getting on to Range West, Castlemartin, Pembrokeshire?

It has a spectacular section of coast, with amazing rock formations and a couple of offshore stacks, plus tanks and other military hardware!

It's closed to the public, other than pre-arranged guided walks.

A local guide "Pembrokeshire Footsteps" is organising one such walk for September 13th, and anyone interested should contact them. I think the cost is £10. Their website needs updating but the address is

www.pembsfootsteps.co.uk

The National Park also runs occasional walks, e.g. all-day rambles on Range West on August 31st and October 25th. Contact them on 01834 845050.

It's a bit far for me to travel, but I'll back up what Jerry's saying. The area is lovely, and the village itself has a lovely old church (provided the scaffolding's gone!). Plenty of history for the area too.

if by the offshore stacks you mean stack rocks / elegug stacks then these are accesable from the car park open all the time, then walk the coast path for about 1 minute

most is on the coastal paths, only a small amount is on the ranges where you're not allowed :)

No, I do mean the closed section of the Range.

There's Pen-y-Holt stack and another whose name I forget! Plus tanks.

The road to the car park is actually closed Mon-Fri 9 - 5, while firing is taking place.

Yep, Warren Church. We do rememberence there every year, sad really, there's less and less every time.

no it's not, i live next to it and it's not shut everyday as they don't do firing everyday. regular firing is tuesday + thursday evenings (with/without jets/helicopters) and then extra one's in the week sometimes. also there is different sections, so not all is closed off

If you're local I hope you went to the charity concert on the ranges earlier this year...:p

I was under the impression it was. But you can't walk Range East on a weekday, though, can you?.

Edit - I was wondering when the Open Day was?

range east, i'm guessing that's st.govans/broad haven/bosherston - in which case, same applies there jerry, mainly due to the coastal path goes through all of it, so they have to keep most parts open :)

*edit* anyways, sorry to take it off topic
