Looking for a compact casual camera backpack. It must be a backpack as I want to be able to clamber around with my hands free and not have it swinging about. As it's for holidays and day trips I don't want one that looks like a camera bag as I don't want it attracting too much attention. Water resistant would be a bonus. Anyone know of such a thing?

A friend uses a normal backpack - Crumpler I think - and protects his camera / lens using Lowepro cases inside the backpack...

I have a Crumpler backpack. It has a separate section at the bottom with dividers for camera gear and the top can be used for storing other bits and pieces. Think it is water resistant too.
Got mine off the bay of E for a good price.

Bah, bought one of eBay today after these replies were posted. I thought I got notifications when people replied to my threads by default. Anyway, I bought a Fjällräven Kånken backpack from eBay for a fraction of their listed price. They look pretty cool in a retro way and have a camera insert that you can buy as an add on. I hadn't considered using the insert though, so I wish I'd checked in here first. Re Crumpler, I had a messenger style bag about 12 years back and took it overseas with my old Hassy gear in. By the time my two week trip was done the strap, that was sewn into the sides of the main section, had almost come off completely. Crumpler were great and replaced it swiftly without question but I've been reluctant to buy one again.

Also, "Automatically watch threads that you start or post in" is now checked! Thank you all.
