A colleague races a caterham. After seeing some of your photos I am thinking about asking her if I can join her at some races to take pics. Do I need to get some kind of pass from the organisers to get a good viewpoint? Would 200mm at f/4 be good enough?
Thanks

You won't be shooting at f/4 but you will be at 200mm. 200mm is just about OK depending on the circuit and either a longer lens or a teleconverter would be a useful addition if you're going to do more of this.

Unless you have a track record of motorsport pics, you'll be in the normal spectator areas, but there are usually plenty of angles to choose from.

200mm on Full Frame is 200mm

however 200mm on your 50D & becomes a wonderful range of 112-320mm & is still f4 !

stick a 1.4x converter on as advised and you have a 156-448mm f5.6...

Should be more than adequete...

Thanks guys. I did a quick google and she raced in the mega grad series in 2009. She's out for this season due to medical reasons but will be back next year. I really like the look of motorsport pics and I love cars. I thought it might be fun tp give it a try.

I'll start saving for that lens and tc :)

Thanks
