is it possible to fit another lens to my mavica cd-500 ?? if so which type/s,

If there's a filter thread on the lens you might be able to fit a wide-angle, macro or tele adapter lens. It's not going to improve the image quality, but it might extend the focal length range. I'm not sure I would bother.

Don't see many Mavicas about these days, I remember some of the first ones to come to the UK with the 3.5" floppy drive!

.. just had a better search, it looks like the cd-500 should have come with an adapter to give a 52mm filter thread, do you have this?

What are you hoping to achieve by adding a lens adapter?

alistair thank you for your reply, i've had the camera, second hand for about 8 years, and have only used for family snaps etc, however due to ill health i find myself really limited as to things i can do,although i know little about photography irecently started to use the camera for out and about things, camera is great for ease of use etc but wondered if a tele photo lens would be worth while, or perhaps i should try an entry level slr?. it does have a screw thread, exterior to the normal lens which looks to be about 42mm, and i'm not surewhether this is usable, any suggestions would be of help,as i've tried sony for any information but of no help at all,, thanking you again. ian

I don't think it would be worth spending much on the Mavica - it's still a good camera within the limits of it's capabilities, but compared to a more modern camera those limits are much more restrictive. It's still a fun camera to keep in the car or somewhere handy.

For not too much money, you should be able to get a very reasonable compact camera with a longer and wider reach than the Mavica and providing better results over a wider range of lighting conditions. Before jumping into a DSLR it's worth having a good think about what you want to do and what you might want to do with it.
