CF card advice

We will be going to France and Italy in July, and I am wondering which essentials to buy before setting off. I need more memory, because I still have the original 4gb CF card which I purchased with the camera three years ago. i know that it will hold around 250 RAW files, so would I be best to buy 2 or 3 4gb cards (rather than put all my eggs in one basket with a 16gb card - I can imagine something going wrong), or a couple of 8gb cards?
I think it may also be time to invest in another battery.
Would I be correct in thinking that Warehouse Express or 7dayshop would be the cheapest?

I use Sandisk Ultra (30Mb/s) in my A700 - Amazon is often the cheapest of the 'reputable' stores (but make sure it is from Amazon themselves).

I also have a Kingston 16Gb Ultimate (x266, 45 Mb/s), Memorybits.co.uk are the cheapest place I have found these.

It's also worth getting a 4 or 8 Gb Memory stick for the second slot - it will almost certainly be slower than the CF, but it's quicker and easier to switch slots via the menu than to change cards, and that can make the difference between getting the shot or not.

It's also worht switching to cRAW if you're not already using cRAW - I ave never noticed any loss of quality from doing so, but you get a noticeable increase in shots per card.

Cheers for that, I have ordered a couple of 8gb cards, and will have a go with cRAW to see how much space it frees up.
 
You can never have enought cards,when your going away,me i would end up taking at least 10 cards,maybe more :D

But i would say at least 6 cards,and a spare batt :)
 
I've got 4 16Gb Cf cards and 1 4Gb card, coupled with these are 4 16Gb and 3 or 4 2Gb SDHC cards so I think I'd make it through a week or so on holiday. I've got 7 batteries to go with 2 cameras as well so I think I'd be ok. I'd go for at least 4 16Gb cards and at least 3 batteries to be on the safe side. Imagine missing those killer shots cause your battery just went down at the wrong moment.
 
Take a charger? As for cards, shoot RAW when doing important stuff and JPEG when arsing around.

I will definitely be taking the charger along, but as for shooting JPEG - I am not sure. I tend to look through the shots after a session and delete any "mingers" when I find them. I have only shot JPEG once since starting to use RAW, and I wasn't happy with the results:shrug:
 
Thanks for all the suggestions folks, my next purchase will be a battery.
 
I would get larger cards as small cards will become redundant in the future, my early large 2GB cards just don't hold enough now. So get a couple of 16gb would be my recommendation.
