CF card slot broken pin

Hi everyone, I am new to this site and to slr photography too, I just bought a Canon 400d which has a broken pin: and from the research I've done i think its pin 12 that is missing (i counted the top row from left to right, with the front of the camera facing with only certain cards (it came with Jessops 32MB + 64MB Lexar 16 MB, Casio 10MB). The seller said he had tried with two SanDisk 32Mb cards, two identical Integral 128Mb cards and an Integral 2Gb card and those didn't work.
I want to know what i could do in this case, maybe stick to certain types of cards (but which types)? or would i have to get it fixed?
 
This may seem like a daft question but why did you buy a 400D with a broken CF slot? Repairing it probably runs around £250-300 as they need to replace the whole CF assembly. The parts are not much but the labour cost...

If it is pin 12, that's A07 or address bus pin 7 (out of 10). That's the reason why bigger CF cards don't work, their full space can't be accessed without the pin. 64MB cards are ridicilously small nowadays...

The 400D is not wort the repair as you can get a second hand 40D for around £300.

Does this mean i wouldn't be able to use 1gb cards? not even the 512MB?
I am planning to buy a new camera next year so I just wanted a fair enough camera for now
theres a cf card slot replacement service on eBay for £50
 
Yes - I think you can't use anything bigger than 128 without that pin

for 50 quid given that he's got 100% feedback (assuming you are talking about funky electronics) you might as well try it because any other route is going to be uneconomical

I hope you didnt pay much for the camera though because you can get fully working 400Ds for under 200 notes , and by the time you've paid for the postage there and back and paid the 50 quid you arent going to have much of a bargain unless you got it for peanuts
