CF error & formatting

Hi all,
I just used a new CF card y.day - didn't format it, but was able to shoot about 30 or so pics fine, before I got the CF card error.
I then formatted the card (lost the pics, but nothing important) & it looks like it's working again.

My question is - is it my fault for not formatting first - or would you return the card?
I'm worried about losing pics again. Should I be?

(I'm new to DSLR photography & to this forum - so hi & thanks!, Gemma)

Hi, welcome to TP!

I always format cards when I get them, just for my own piece of mind. I would think your card is ok to use now, but please dont take my word for it, wait for others to agree or disagree.

Dave

PS If you live in Brighton, hello there!!! Used to be a Brightonion myself :)

Happens sometimes with me, I just take it out and blow it and put it back, 9 times out of 10 it fixes it, other than that I format it after trying to download them to my pc. Its best to format news cards but theres nothing wrong no doing so.

Welcome to tp as well!

Thanks Dave, Andy,
I'll give the card another go, hopefully it was just because I didn't format it & nothing more fundamental. Cheers.

Yep, Dave, I am in Brighton. . :)

this happened to me with a 1gb CF card... it came up error on the screen all of a sudden... i tried to format it etc but it still wont work..

Card and camera manufacturers always recommend you format before use so the card is 'talking' the camera's language, so to speak...

Sorry - yes it's your fault.

What camera is this in, I had similar problems with a Nikon D70 and after going through numerous cards had to conclude it was the camera not the cards. Owing to this I repalced the camera as it was causing me no end of problems. I could always recover the images using software, but it was a hastle I didn't need.
